This is to inform you that the Greek Parliament voted 9th of July, 2015 the amendment of the Greek Immigration Code (hereinafter the “Code”).

This amendment of the Code incorporates improvements to the granting of Residence Permits of non-EU citizens who purchase a property in Greece, of a value of at least 250.000. The respective proposals have been thoroughly discussed with the General Secretary of the Ministry of Interior Affairs and they were adopted by the new Greek Government in the relevant Code amendment.
- The Residence Permit that is granted to the aforementioned investors is officially named as “Permanent Investor’s Residence Permit”. As long as the purchaser remains the property owner, the Residence Permit is not revoked. The obligation for renewal (i.e. investigation of the ownership status) that was provided by the former legislation is not changed.

- The family members that are entitled to be granted with a connected Residence Permit, because of the granting of a main Residence Permit of the property owner, remain the same (i.e. husband or wife and children aged up to 21 years old). Additionally, following the amendment of the Code, the parents of the property owner and his/her husband’s/wife’s parents are also entitled to apply for such a connected permanent Residence Permit.
- In case that a non-EU citizen decided to invest in a property already purchased by another investor, following a relevant amendment, he/she is entitled to apply for a permanent Residence Permit. The aforesaid option was not permitted before the amendment of the Code. The Residence Permits that had been issued for the previous owner and his/her family members are automatically revoked.
-Investors and their spouses may apply for citizenship after a 7-year stay in Greece.Underage foreigner (meaningunder 18 years old) that residencespermanently and legally in Greece has a right to obtain Greek citizenship ifhe/she was a student at a Greek school either of 6 classes on the secondaryeducation (12-18 years old) or 9 classes all together. Kinder garden is notcounting towards those years. Foreigner that livespermanently and legally in Greece and is a graduate of a Greek university or Technogical Institute can obtain the Greek citizenship if he/she has completeda secondary level and graduated from a Greek school. The application can befilled during a 3 years deadline from the graduation date.
Following the adoption of the amendment of the Code by the Greek Parliament, it is expected the Law’s publication in the Official Greek Government’s Gazette and the issuance of the respective Ministry Decisions and Circulars which are necessary for the full implementation of the above mentioned improvements.
